Local Cygwin Install

  1. Copy the directory that your teacher gives you onto your desktop.
  2. Run "setup-x86_64.exe" from that directory.
  3. You will see a welcome screen.
  4. On the next screen, "Choose a download source", select "Install From Local Directory."
  5. Click "Next" when Select Local Package Directory appears.

  6. The setup program will read the files from the directory it is in and ask you to choose the programs. On the next screen we will choose the elements we want to add, These elements are:

    • gcc-core from Devel
    • make from Devel
    • git from Devel
    • nano from Editors
    • unzip from Archive
    • wget from Web
    • CUnit from Libs

    As you can see in the illustration below, search for the item you want. For example, in the illustration, I am searching for gcc-core. There may be several different choices available. Choose the one indicated above. Here, we chose Devel, as indicated.

  7. When you click on Devel, a list of options will show up as seen in the illustration below. Choose the correct one (here gcc-core) by clicking on the word skip. The word will change to a number indicating the version that will be installed.

    Go back to the search box and search for the rest until all seven packages are installed.

  8. After you have selected all the packages listed above, click on next. A window showing download progress will appear. It will take a long time for the computer to download all of the files needed. It may take as long as an hour depending on the speed of the internet.
